Service Description

The Gatehouse has tailored its service offering to the pandemic. Meals are being prepared and guests are able to sit in the garden on Monday to Friday from 5pm - 6pm and on Sundays from 4pm - 5pm.

Hot meals are provided on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Clothes are available for guests when they collect their meals on a Monday, Tuesday or Sunday and the clothes store is open for emergencies from Wednesday to Friday.

Clothing donations are welcome and please email to confirm drop off

Food deliveries are also taking place to help people who are vulnerably housed.

The Shower Project is now on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4.00pm-6.00pm. Guests can book a space during cafe opening hours or by sending an email to

Casework (one to one support on a range of emotional and practical needs) and counselling is still taking place but remotely.

As from Monday 22nd June 2020 the Gatehouse will be operating three separate service provisions to adults who are homeless or vulnerably housed.

The food and drink delivery parcel service to the vulnerably housed will continue, as will the practical provision for people who are currently temporarily housed (when needed). Thank you for all of the support from donors and funders that enables this service to continue.

The Gatehouse will also continue to deliver a bespoke remote one to one support service by a dedicated staff team to offer emotional and practical support for people who need it.

Additionally, there will be a take away service under a very different operational model. This service will be available to adults who are not housed or currently in temporary accommodation (e.g. rough sleepers) on Monday - Thursday 5pm-6pm and Sunday 4pm-5pm from our usual venue at 10 Woodstock Road.

All services will be adapted to meet current Covid-19 Government guidance. If you would like more information please contact Kat at

Under normal circumstances - which we hope to get back to as soon as possible - The Gatehouse community drop in centre offers free support services for adults aged 25+ who are homeless, vulnerably housed, on low income and/or looking for company and community. We offer a free café (six evenings a week), therapeutic workshops and one to one support (over two evenings and one afternoon a week).

The café averages 347 visits a week and is accessed by up to 70 individuals an evening. We engage some of the most hard to reach and entrenched rough sleepers on a regular basis, and have an informal approach when working with people.

The Gatehouse is a volunteer-led organisation with approximately 400 helpers. We prepare the food every day, deliver the front line service, and undertake administration and website management. A small team of paid staff helps the different volunteer teams manage risk or complex issues within sessions.

On Fridays, from noon until 3pm there is an appointment only service. This is a quieter space where guests can work with staff and volunteers on a range of issues that they need and want support with. Anyone can drop in to an evening session at the centre and ask for more information on how they can be booked in for an appointment.

On Tuesdays from 5.30pm to 7pm there is a women-only space available.
